The Future of Non-GMO Production in the EU
This event will focus on the legislative proposal presented by the EU Commission – an effective deregulation of New GMOs. We will hear directly from business: from the food sector, including the retail and food manufacturers’ perspectives, as well as from the organic sector. MEPs have also been invited from across the political groups to address the event.
The event aims to answer the vital questions, which have not been given enough attention up until now: What does the Commission’s proposal mean for the food sector, for conventional and organic Non-GMO production, and for consumers? We will also hear from companies what they need to continue to produce without GMOs and to safeguard the production of Non-GMO food.
The high-level panel discussion will be an opportunity to learn about the stark economic effects of a possible deregulation on the conventional and organic Non-GMO markets – markets worth about 20 or 58,6 billion euros, respectively.
The event is co-hosted by S&D MEPs Maria Noichl and Christophe Clergeau, and it will see the participation of IFOAM Organics Europe president Jan Plagge.
It will take place on 15 Nov, 1-3 pm CET, at the Building Paul Henri Spaak – Meeting room SPAAK 4B1, European Parliament, Brussels.
